Microsoft Surface

Who would have imagined of having a multi-touch, 30 inch computer screen, in the form of a table, for users to interact with data collaboratively and simultaneously? Well, Microsoft made this happen, and called it Microsoft Surface!

This revolutionary computer screen has no extra wires, mouse, or keyboard, and is multi-touch, responding to both hand gestures and objects. It can digitally connect with objects lying on the screen, to share data wirelessly. For example, if you were to place a digital camera on the screen, it would immediately show you the photos on the camera. Surface allows a hands-on experience, where you can grab digital content, and move information with gestures and touches. If you were to lay your cell phone on the screen as well, with a simple drag of the photo towards your cell phone, it would be sent to your phone. A procedure that could have taken multiple wire connections, and possibly an additional Bluetooth connectivity – would take just seconds, thanks to Microsoft Surface. Watch this informative video to see how it works:

“Microsoft Surface uses cameras and image recognition in the infrared spectrum to recognize different types of objects such as fingers, tagged items and shapes. This input is then processed by the computer and the resulting interaction is displayed using rear projection. The user can manipulate content and interact with the computer using natural touch and hand gestures, instead of a typical mouse and keyboard,” according to Microsoft Surface’s website. The core applications that Surface currently hosts are photos, music, concierge, news reader, games pack, and water screen saver, along with applications such as financial services and mobile connect, as examples of business uses.

Businesses have such a potential for growth if they incorporate Surface into their IT. Surface can help businesses better their communication, outreach, deliverability of services, etc, to their customers. Initial customers are hospitality businesses, such as hotels, retail, restaurants, public entertainment venues, and the military for tactical overviews. After Surface’s preliminary launch in April of 2008, AT&T stores were the first to have them available for customer use. Later that year, MSNBC used Surface during the presidential elections, as well as various hotels and casinos for customer use.

The technology behind this is phenomenal. The idea of having personal interaction with a multi-touch computer screen and avoiding cables, cords, keyboards, and a mouse, is a wonderful addition to today’s wireless technology. This invention brings people closer through digital interaction, creating a fun and exciting environment for users!
